The Starz series will travel back in time this summer.

Outlander has been on TV for over a decade now (and isn’t over yet), but after soon-to-be eight seasons with multiple centuries in between, the show is finally going back to the beginning. At long last, Outlander: Blood Of My Blood has an official release date. The prequel focused on Claire’s and Jamie’s parents, first announced back in 2022, will premiere August 8 at 8 p.m. ET (9 p.m. ET in Canada) on Starz. That’s still a ways away, but at least fans have something concrete to put in their calendars. People waiting on the OG series’ eighth and final season have not yet been so lucky.

If you liked Outlander‘s eon-spanning love triangle, try this on for size: Blood Of My Blood follows not one but two couples, “from the war-torn battlefields of WWI to the sweeping Highlands of 18th century Scotland, promising two new love stories filled with loyalty, passion and desire, as the young couples defy the forces that seek to tear them apart,” per the series’ logline. Claire’s parents, the WWI half of the equation, will be played by Hermione Corfield (Julia Moriston) and Jeremy Irvine (Henry Beauchamp), while Jamie’s parents will be played by Harriet Slater (Ellen MacKenzie) and Jamie Roy (Brian Fraser). 

For anyone who just wants to watch a little sexy Scottish history without juggling 7-plus seasons of lore, Blood Of My Blood promises to be “welcoming [to] viewers unfamiliar with the Outlander universe, while also providing origin stories of fan-favorite characters from early seasons of Outlander, and offering new perspectives that will change what viewers of the original series think they know.” 

Starz previously released a short teaser for the prequel show, and while it doesn’t seem to include any actual time travel like its predecessor, the clock will clearly be a factor. It ticks persistently in the background as both couples go through the standard prestige romance beats: a graze on the knee, a side-by-side horse ride, lots of letters and longing gazes, you name it. Both couples’ time may be limited, but at least fans finally know what time they can tune in to watch them. You can check out the teaser below:
