What's on TV this week—Sinners, Nautilus, Heads Of State

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, June 29 to Saturday, July 5. All times are Eastern.

The biggies

Heads Of State (Prime Video, Wednesday, 12:01 a.m.)

John Cena and Idris Elba play a movie star-turned-POTUS and the U.K.’s highly trained Prime Minister, respectively, in this action comedy. When they become targets of mercenaries, the two set aside their differences and try to thwart a global conspiracy. The ensemble includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Paddy Considine, Jack Quaid, and Stephen Root. The A.V. Club‘s review publishes Wednesday.

The Old Guard 2 (Netflix, Wednesday, 3:01 a.m.)

In this sequel to the 2020 fantasy blockbuster The Old Guard, Andy (Charlize Theron) grapples with her newfound mortality and—along with her team of warriors—attempts to protect the world when a mysterious threat emerges. Look for The A.V. Club‘s review on Tuesday.

Also airing

Nautilus (AMC, Sunday, 9 p.m.)

This British epic, which is based on Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, tells the origin story of Captain Nemo (Shazad Latif), who steals a submarine from his captors and jets off to have adventures with his crew. Check out The A.V. Club‘s review of the show.

Shark Whisperer (Netflix, Monday, 3:01 a.m.)

Shark Whisperer dives into the career of a marine conservationist Ocean Ramsey (yes, that’s her name), who has spent the past decade advocating for the safety of underwater creatures. But her risky swims alongside various shark species, including great whites, have drawn ire from the scientific community.

Sinners (Max, Friday, 3:01 a.m.)

One of this year’s best films comes to streaming just in time for the long Fourth of July weekend. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers who start a juke joint in Mississippi after World War I—only for its opening night to go completely off the rails when a group of vampires arrive. Read The A.V. Club‘s review.
