Donald Trump hits career low with Razzie nomination
The Razzies have long been a lazy cabal of lowest-common-denominator jeering, routinely bestowing their booby prizes upon the kinds of cynical Hollywood fluff that never sought to be good in the first place. That said, a broken clock is right twice a day, and this year’s ceremony made the right choice by piling nominations in the lap of John Travolta’s John Gotti, whose abhorrent, self-serious biopic topped our list of 2018's worst movies. Hacks gotta hack, though, so the Razzies took things a step further by nominating President Donald Trump for its Worst Actor award. Because being the subject of a documentary is acting now.
Trump’s nomination comes via the archival footage used in Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 11/9 and Dinesh D’Souza’s Death Of A Nation, but, wait, the burn gets spicier. Melania Trump and Kellyanne Conway also secured nominations, and our president’s relationship with his “self-perpetuating pettiness” landed him alongside Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s Holmes and Watson in the Worst Screen Combo category. A win here, one imagines, would hit harder than a tweet telling Trump he’s “fired.”
Leading the nominations beside our president and the aforementioned mobster—former pals, by the way—are films like puppet-jizz caper The Happytime Murders and that Robin Hood remake nobody cared about. See the full list below.
