What started as the nom de plume for Katie Crutchfield’s solo project, Waxahatchee grew in stature on its sophomore album Cerulean Salt, a record that ended up on many best-of-2013 lists, including our own. That attention resulted in the band signing to Merge Records, which has announced an April 7 release for Waxahatchee’s third album, Ivy Tripp. Merge has also debuted that album’s first song, “Air,” showing that Crutchfield has taken yet another leap forward from the lo-fi, acoustic songs of her debut, American Weekend.
Waxahatchee has further announced tour dates that will see the band traversing both North America and Europe this spring. The touring version of Waxahatchee will see Crutchfield joined by her sister Allison and members of her band Swearin’, making it the closest the Crutchfields have come to reuniting the great, underappreciated P.S. Eliot.
