Jennifer Garner is playing coy about what shook her to her core at the Oscars

Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony was so bereft of surprises and takeaways that an actress who wasn’t even nominated for anything emerged as one of the biggest talking points. Why, you ask? Well, someone caught video of her happening upon some apocalyptic realization mid-clap, resulting in a new go-to GIF.

So pervasive was the speculation that Garner herself sought to clear the record, not via an interview revealing that she finally understood the relevance of the dying deer in Get Out, but rather via an Instagram story offering up a few explanations.

“Congrats to Shape Of Water! Maybe I should date a fish?” she says first, offering up a light dig at her recent divorce from Ben Affleck.

Next, she spoofed her ubiquitous Capital One Venture ads and its tagline. “Hey Jimmy Kimmel, what’s in your wallet? Wait, where’s my wallet?” Funny, Jen, but Twitter beat you to that one.

And lastly, in reference to her upcoming HBO series with Lena Dunham: “Can’t wait to work with Lena Dunham! Wait, did I sign a nudity waiver?”

Replace that last sentence with, “Oh, god, is Lena Dunham going to one day end up apologizing for that, too?” and we’re probably somewhere closer to the truth.

In the meantime, the mystery of the ominous Garner revelation rages on.
