Although Bob Dylan’s music became an indelible part of the Vietnam War era—and subsequently became very popular there for its relatable sentiments of “Hey, maybe don’t bomb Vietnam”—he’s never actually performed there. But all that will change next month when Dylan’s tour of Asia will include his first-ever stops in China and Vietnam, with Dylan’s concert in Ho Chi Minh City on April 10 expected to fill an 8,000-plus capacity venue, provided everyone can afford a ticket priced just above the average monthly minimum wage. Naturally the comments on Yahoo have already erupted in predictable cries of “Maybe he and Hanoi Jane can sing a duet” and “He loves it there. Make him stay there!!” because clearly Bob Dylan is a communist and he hates America and this is all part of his secret long-term plot to first offer sympathy to and then, 40 years later, conspire with our enemies. Anyway, Dylan, of course, is enjoying a renewed popularity, thanks to teen pop sensation Rebecca Black’s recent cover of the obscure Basement Tapes track “Friday.”
