Synopsis
Namibia was a German colony for only 30 years: German Southwest Africa. But the shadow of this time is long and still today the country suffers from this past. The German "Herrenmenschen" came with the Bible, but their behavior was anything but Christian. Fraudulent contracting, violence and abuse culminated in the uprising that began on January 12, 1904. After the famous Battle of Waterberg, the rebels and their families are driven into the Omaheke Desert and sealed off from the only water points. 85,000 people die of thirst and starvation in this first officially planned genocide. The wounds of this past continue to shape the country to this day, as we learn from leading representatives of the Herero and Nama. And they are still fighting for the German state to come to terms with it.
