Jay Z doesn’t need your pity, says Tidal is “doing just fine”

Jay Z is a tough guy. He’s been through stuff, he’s worked hard to get to where he is, and now that his wildly unpopular music streaming service Tidal is going through a rough patch, everybody is going around feeling bad for him. You can’t even launch Spotify or Pandora without running into countless people who are wondering why Tidal—which was announced by a parade of rich people who feel like they could be richer—isn’t more popular.

We can all stop feeling bad for Jay Z, though, because he says this is all a big misunderstanding. In a Patton Oswalt-esque Twitter rant (though a bit less tiresome than that one), Jay Z explained that Tidal isn’t actually wildly unpopular, it’s actually “doing just fine.” He says it just needs “a chance to grow and get better.” He also offered a response to people who think Tidal is just an excuse for rich people to get richer (what kind of idiot would say that?), by pointing out that Tidal is valued at $60 million, while even Spotify—the scrappy new kid in music streaming—is valued at $8 billion.

Here’s everything Jay Z had to say about Tidal, and make sure you stick around for the end. He makes a dumb Daft Punk joke.
