The trailer for X-Men: First Class: Charles And Erik's Cold War Adventure

As debuted on the film’s official Facebook page—which insecurely demands that you declare you “Like” it in front of everyone you know before it’ll even talk to you—here is the first glimpse of this summer’s X-Men: First Class. Matthew Vaughn’s prequel heads back to the 1960s, when Professor X and Magneto were just school chums with heads full of rich, chestnut hair named Charles (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender), discovering their powers against the backdrop of the Cold War. Although mostly dialogue-free—archival footage of JFK gets the bulk of the lines here—it does a pretty good job of establishing the tone while providing some glimpses of younger people playing familiar characters (Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, Nicholas Hoult’s Beast) and new mutants entirely (including January Jones’ Emma Frost and Zoe Kravitz’s Angel Salvadore). Unfortunately, there’s only a couple of glimpses of the most talked-about cast addition, Kevin Bacon’s Sebastian Shaw, but, uh, he certainly looks smug in that tuxedo.
