Disney now fully owns The Avengers and Iron Man 3 (which, by the way, is definitely happening)
The tricky three-girl rhumba that is the tenuous marriage of Disney, Marvel, and Paramount has been delineated somewhat today with a $115 million deal giving Disney exclusive distribution and marketing rights to Iron Man 3 and The Avengers, while Paramount gets custody of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger. That doesn’t mean much to you, the viewer, unless you’re an avid fan of the Paramount logo or the Disney logo gives you seizures, in which case you’ll be sorely disappointed/spasmodic during the opening seconds of Iron Man 3 and The Avengers. However, the press release did come with the added bonus of confirming that there will, indeed, be a third Iron Man—something long assumed but never spoken of until now—and it will be released on May 3, 2013, almost exactly a year after The Avengers debuts on May 4, 2012.
