Judging by the thus-far reliable metric of what he tweets and when, Fox News’ morning show Fox & Friends, which airs every morning at the peak senior-citizen hours of 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET, is a favorite of the current President of the United States of America. Donald Trump has repeated statistics he heard on the show verbatim many times—most recently over the weekend, when he retweeted a video supposedly showing people climbing a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, a topic he was still going on about early this morning.
So perhaps it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that Trump’s administration is moving towards combining the two by naming Fox & Friends co-anchor Heather Nauert spokesperson for the U.S. State Department. (Maybe now he’ll pay attention to his daily briefings.) Nauert has been on Fox & Friends since 2012; before that, she served as an anchor and correspondent for Fox News and, before that, a correspondent at ABC News. As Variety notes in its story, this isn’t the first time a journalist has assumed this particular role: Bernard Kalb served in the post during the Reagan administration. But it is the first time a journalist who’s openly encouraged Americans to buy shoes from the president’s daughter has taken the job.
