Get involved, Internet: Help fund the Roger Ebert documentary directed by Steve James

The 1994 documentary Hoop Dreams was one of Roger Ebert's favorite films, so it made perfect sense when director Steve James emerged as part of the team—along with screenwriter Steve Zaillian and executive producer Martin Scorsese—to develop a documentary based on Ebert's memoir Life Itself, including interviews with Errol Morris, Werner Herzog, and Scorsese. In James' words, “He was also a flesh and blood man whose life was full of humor, hubris, and his share of heartbreak,” and Ebert's wife Chaz hopes this will be a portrait of "Roger the man, not just the icon." Kartemquin Films has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise the funds needed to complete postproduction. Rewards range from an early digital screener to a workshop conversation with James and Producer Zak Piperto a private screening of Life Itself with friends at Chicago’s Lake Street screening room, where Ebert’s seat still rests.
