Jordan Peele’s horror movie will address racial issues
Key & Peele’s Jordan Peele has a lot going on right now, but one of the projects that’s closest to his heart is the horror movie he’s developing for Darko Entertainment. In a recent Entertainment Weekly interview, Peele described the film as “a straight horror movie” inspired by Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives, and now new plot details about the project, tentatively titled Get Out, have emerged. Peele describes the story as being based on “the fears of being a black man today,” as opposed to TV news, which is about the fear of black men today:
“I’ve been spending the first half of my career focusing on comedy but my goal, in all honesty, is to write and direct horror movies,” Peele says. “I have one that I’m working on with Darko Entertainment called Get Out – I don’t want to say too much about it, but it is one of the very, very few horror movies that does jump off of racial fears. That to me is a world that hasn’t been explored. Specifically, the fears of being a black man today. The fears of being any person who feels like they’re a stranger in any environment that is foreign to them. It deals with a protagonist that I don’t see in horror movies.”
Presumably, he is not referring to Blaculas.
