Seinfeld actor Daniel von Bargen barely survives botched suicide attempt
Daniel von Bargen, an actor perhaps best known for his roles on Seinfeld and Super Troopers, has narrowly survived a suicide attempt and is currently in critical condition. TMZ has the tape of von Bargen’s 911 call—and fair warning, it’s disturbing stuff—which he made shortly after shooting himself in the temple with a .38 revolver. Von Bargen, who’s diabetic, says he attempted to kill himself because he was “supposed to go to the hospital and I didn’t want to,” remarking later in the call that he was “tired” and didn’t want to have his toes amputated. Law enforcement officials can be heard arriving at the end of the call yelling for von Bargen to keep his hands where they can see them before taking him to Bethesda North Hospital, where ABC News reports that he is “improving” but remains seriously injured. Von Bargen is probably most recognized for playing George Costanza’s indifferent, incompetent boss Mr. Kruger on Seinfeld and Police Chief Grady in Super Troopers, although his film and TV credits also include Malcolm In the Middle, The X-Files, Basic Instinct, Broken Arrow, Philadelphia, Clive Barker’s Lord Of Illusions, The Postman, and O Brother Where Art Thou?
