The Divergent Series: Allegiant U.K. trailer talks about walls, then goes over them
The U.K. trailer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant proves that George R. R. Martin isn’t the only one who can dream up a world of bogeymen behind a massive wall. Author Veronica Roth doesn’t rely on frostbitten zombies to terrorize her heroes, though—instead, it’s the sympathetic face of Jeff Daniels who nods understandingly at your problems and then gives the order to blow you out of the sky anyway.
More expansive than the teaser trailer, this new preview has something on its mind besides neutered action scenes happening in front a green screen. The focal point is the quandary of whether it’s worth sustaining a populace seemingly bent on destroying itself. This could lead to some juicy discussions about nature versus nurture, or just more scenes of young people looking preposterously sexy when they’re an inch from death. Unfortunately, the script doesn’t seem to be doing the themes any favors, with Naomi Watts saying things like, “People think walls separate us, but they also protect us.” Indeed. And tables are expensive, but they also support our weight when we must clean the ceiling fan. Did we do that right? Do we get a million dollars?
But let’s think positively, since we still have two of these movies to get through. The Divergent Series: Allegiant will continue its thesis on walls on March 18, 2016.
