The TV wasteland continues, but at least we have The Comeback
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Sunday, December 28th. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
The Comeback (HBO, 10 p.m.): It’s been a long, weird road for both Valerie Cherish and the show within a show within a show that made her an icon. The Comeback‘s abbreviated first season seemed destined to linger on lists like our own “One Season Wonders” until HBO realized the mock reality series was less prescient now than wholly relevant and revived it for a second season. We’re not sure what’s going to happen to it next, but we hope tonight’s second season finale isn’t another series finale after all.
Also noted
A&E Special: The Hollywood Reporter Roundtables (A&E, 12 and 1 p.m.): As winter deepens and awards season begins, we brace ourselves for the deluge of retrospectives, publicity junkets, and behind the scenes anecdotes (celebrities love and prank each other sometimes, unless they’re in a drama, in which case they’re appreciating this great gift of a role). While you can see The Hollywood Reporter series highlighting performances The Hollywood Reporter found noteworthy online, A&E will also be airing the roundtables for the actors and actresses.
The Great British Baking Show: Cake (PBS, 8 p.m.): The popular British cooking show bent on positivity makes its way across the pond to our shores, where we can watch reality television and pretend like it’s intellectual, because it’s on PBS and they have British accents.
Nanny Cam (9 p.m., Lifetime): In case you were wondering whether post-holiday TV really is as desolate a hellscape as you thought it might be, here is a new Lifetime Original movie entitled “Nanny Cam.”
