The Wolverine

Marvel’s foremost mutant is snikt-ing his way back onto movie screens this summer amid stiff superhero competition—Iron Man 3 and Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel—following his inauspicious solo film debut, 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But with a new director on board, Walk The Line’s James Mangold, and a script loosely based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s acclaimed 1982 limited series, The Wolverine is posed to bring some luster back to the hirsute mutant’s franchise. And even if it doesn’t—hey, ninjas! The new full trailer for The Wolverine sees Logan acting all emo as he follows the promise of mortality to Japan, intercut with lots of giant fireballs, martial-arts action, and Wolverine performing a solo fastball special on top of a train. (Eagle-eyed viewers might even catch a blink-and-you’ll miss-it glimpse of a certain telekinetic someone played by Famke Janssen.) The longer international trailer includes a little more backstory and a lot more footage of a greasy, long-haired Jackman getting sliced across the face. Given how much Fox has been hyping The Wolverine—this week alone has seen the release of a teaser trailer, a “sizzle reel,” and new posters—these are probably the first of many, many trailers for The Wolverine, so get ready for lots more face-ripping, muscle-straining, sideburned action between now and July 24.
