Turns out Katherine Langford's mysterious, excised Endgame character wasn't that interesting, after all
Late last year, we learned that 13 Reasons Why actress Katherine Langford was cast in a mysterious Endgame role, one we excitedly hoped would turn out to be Hawkeye protege Kate Bishop. Alas, Bishop didn’t turn up in Endgame—though a series starring her and Hawkeye is on the way from Disney+—nor did Langford herself, who, it appears, found her scene on the cutting room floor.
Joe and Anthony Russo recently swung by the Happy Sad, Confused podcast for a post-Endgame chat and, sadly, their reveal of Langford’s character is fairly underwhelming.
“There was an idea that we had that Tony [Stark] was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers,” said Joe. “And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station.”
Yep, Langford was set to play the older version of Morgan Stark in what sounds like a sweet, if ultimately unnecessary scene. “The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.” Also, test audiences just didn’t respond to the moment, resulting in the Russos accepting that the impact just wasn’t there. “What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter,” Joe added. “So it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.”
Hey, more cheeseburgers for baby Morgan!
