Netflix has started seeing a giant invisible rabbit, announces a remake of Harvey

The number of people in the world who are nostalgic for the 1950 Jimmy Stewart vehicle Harvey must be shrinking by the day, thus steadily draining the film’s remake viability. So, as reported by Deadline, Netflix has decided to get in while the gettin’s good by announcing that it has picked up the rights to develop a remake of the classic movie about a man named Elwood P. Dowd who befriends a six-foot tall imaginary rabbit named Harvey (unless he’s not imaginary?!). Netflix’s version comes from writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, who both have a “David” and a letter in their names and also worked on Shrek 2 and the Smurfs movies together. Harvey is kind of like Shrek and a Smurf, so it seems appropriate.

Harvey originally began as a play before being adapted into the aforementioned Jimmy Stewart movie, and there have been a bunch of attempts to remake it in the past 60-something years—including an attempt that would’ve involved Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
