Rectify writer Scott Teems working on a sequel to the Halloween reboot

The true genius of a sequel-ignoring reboot like David Gordon Green’s Halloween movie isn’t just that it reignites the old fires of nostalgia, it’s that it opens the door for a whole new line of bad sequels that gradually suck away the things that people liked about the original movie. Naturally, then, the Halloween reboot will be getting a sequel of its own, with Collider reporting that Rectify writer Scott Teems is in talks to write the script from a “well-liked treatment” that he has already written for production company Blumhouse.

That bit in particular seems interesting, since the Collider story doesn’t say when he wrote that treatment or (naturally) what that treatment may be about. That means it could just be a good idea and not necessarily a good idea that directly plays off of what happened in the last movie—which ended with Michael Myers getting caught in a crazy trap-house that was then burned to the ground. Teems didn’t work on the first movie, and at this point Green and the original reboot writers Jeff Fradley and Danny McBride aren’t involved.

Of course, that being said, Teems has written scripts for upcoming Blumhouse adaptations of Stephen King’s Firestarter and The Breathing Method, so the studio believes he’s doing something right. We just hope his “well-liked treatment” didn’t involve brainwashing Halloween masks or Laurie Strode being Michael’s sister. That stuff would be really weird in a Halloween sequel.
