The Wolf Of Wall Street
Continuing a year of Leonardo DiCaprio playing insanely rich guys, here he is as real-life stockbroker Jordan Belfort, a man with real money to burn—and toss into a trashcan, and tape to women's breasts, and generally throw in your face, like whatever cocktail he happens to have handy. (Somehow this is not in 3-D.) Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street tracks Belfort’s rise and fall in the early ’90s, and with it the unscrupulous, self-serving abandon that led to our inevitable financial collapse: As so many an analyst has opined, perhaps our future might have been safeguarded had Wall Street only spent more time considering long-term consequences, and less time playing with monkeys, swallowing goldfish, and tossing dwarves. Anyway, this frenetic trailer (soundtracked to Kanye West’s own recent ode to self-absorption, “Black Skinhead”) suggests a Goodfellas of the Goldman Sachs set, right down to DiCaprio’s Henry Hill-esque narration, but with Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey playing daffier versions of the Pesci/De Niro accomplice/mentor roles. Seems like a solid investment to us.
