Thor
Who he is: Thor Odinson, a.k.a. Prince Of Asgard, a.k.a. God Of Thunder
His power: While the “God Of Thunder” moniker gives a hint, the Asgardian warrior possesses strength far outstripping mortals, but much of his power comes through his possession of Mjolnir, his gigantic hammer. It allows him to fly, summon and direct lightning bolts, whirl windstorms and tornadoes into existence, strike the ground with concussive force, and various other abilities.
His story: At the beginning of Thor, he is primed to ascend the throne of Asgard, but a quick temper and rash behavior instead leads Odin to strip Thor of his power and take the Mjolnir from him until he proves himself worthy. After falling for human Jane Foster and saving others from death, his powers are restored, and he returns to Asgard to defeat Loki, who had usurped their father’s place as king. He returns to Earth in The Avengers to help them again defeat Loki and his Chitauri army, returning afterward to Asgard with the Tesseract and delivering Loki to prison. In Thor: The Dark World, he fights the Dark Elves (led by the evil Malekith) and saves Jane from a potent force called the Aether, ultimately refusing the throne and returning to Earth to live with her. However, during the fight with Ultron, Thor has a vision of destruction engulfing the Nine Realms and returns to Asgard to get to the bottom of the strange warning—a warning which, honestly, felt out of place in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Played by: Chris Hemsworth
Currently, Thor is: Home in Asgard, possibly kicking in doors and asking questions.
