Tom Cruise signs on for another Mission: Impossible movie

As foretold by the box-office success of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol and the properties of integers, a Mission: Impossible 5 is now officially in the works with Tom Cruise again set to star, guaranteeing the world will no longer be denied movies in which Tom Cruise is unflappable in the face of great odds for more than a month or two. Beyond Cruise’s participation, nothing else is certain yet—the sequel’s targeted release date, the stability of a universe in which Tom Cruise is the star of two spy franchises based on 1960s TV shows, whether the title will be Mi55ion: Impo55ible 5: The Tilde Paradox ~ ¡Cinco De Spy-O! or something silly, and most importantly, whether Tom Cruise’s fictional-life partner Christopher McQuarrie will still write and direct, as expected. Potentially complicating the latter is the fact that McQuarrie just signed on to take that remake of Ice Station Zebra away from David Gordon Green, which could mean adjusting the timetable of M:I5 to accommodate him. Fortunately for everyone, there is no expiration date on Tom Cruise’s viability as an action star.
