Instagram forgets how music works, launches its own music channel
Ignoring the fact that its competitors have tried—and failed—to incorporate music into their social media platforms, Instagram has launched its own dedicated music channel, @Music. In the announcement, Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom claims the purpose of this new channel is for fans to explore “a different side” of their favorite artists by looking at the images they posted on their Instagram accounts on a different account that Instagram just so happens to run.
According to Buzzfeed, the channel will update once a day, Tuesday though Sunday, and its inaugural post takes a month-old photo from Questlove’s account and adds a bit of insight that was missing from his initial caption. Instagram claims it’ll be putting the spotlight on up-and-coming artists too, giving young musicians accolades for picking the best filters and using the most grabby hashtags instead of for those pesky songs that have been getting in the way of their real creative expression.
