Sean Hayes will play Larry in the Three Stooges movie

The Farrelly Brothers’ upcoming Three Stooges movie continues its slight downgrade with the casting of Will And Grace’s Sean Hayes as Larry, who will join former MadTV player and $#*! My Dad Says co-star Will Sasso as Curly in the not-quite-biopic. We say “downgrade” not as a judgment on the actors or their suitability for the roles, only as a reminder that at one time this film was set up with Benicio Del Toro as Moe, Jim Carrey as Curly, and Sean Penn as Larry, but ever since the faltering of MGM and the project’s subsequent relocation to Fox, it’s definitely taken on a notably more “TV movie” quality. And of course, that could ultimately end up being a blessing, as that original cast would likely have left the audience in a state of perpetual bafflement that would have distracted from all the slapping. Anyway, all that’s left now is to find Moe, with the rumored frontrunner being Hank Azaria—who obviously has an advantage.
