Wesley Snipes not all that concerned about prison, preparing J. Edgar Hoover project and talking up another Blade

Undeterred by the possibility of a three-year prison term, actor and activist for never paying your damn taxes Wesley Snipes is making some rather ambitious plans—including his own J. Edgar Hoover-related film that Clint Eastwood is definitely not worried about, as well as a possible revisit to the Blade franchise.

Deadline recently interviewed the actor and it’s a fascinating study in spin, such as when Snipes is asked about his temporarily delayed prison sentence and he says, “It’s all good. Put it like that.” Um, fair enough? Optimistic or just completely deluded, Snipes is currently considering myriad projects that he probably won’t be able to do for a while, first and foremost a drama about Hoover’s attempts to discredit Martin Luther King Jr., centered on the former assistant FBI director William Sullivan, who later exposed Hoover’s misdeeds out of guilt and subsequently died in a mysterious “hunting accident.” Snipes says that he’s already received an endorsement from Martin Luther King III (with whom he reportedly bonded over a shared lawyer) to do the story, adding:

"I’ve got a lot on my plate right now, and this is an important project that has my focus. Acting is my main lane, and I’m planning to expand that, taking the success of films like Blade and marinating that into something that flourishes.”

Sounds delicious! And what of Blade itself, which has been talked about as a possible reboot starring The Wire's Idris Elba?

“Maybe we get around to doing another Blade, except, from what I’m reading, every other actor is talking about playing him, and nobody is talking to Wesley. How strange that they don’t come and talk to me about it.”

Yes, how strange.
