Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, will make a film about the infamous Steubenville rape case—and, in particular, how the town and its charged rapists clashed with the online activist collective Anonymous. Plan B has acquired the rights to David Kushner’s article “Anonymous v. Steubenville,” which originally ran in Rolling Stone in 2013.
The Steubenville rape trial made national headlines after town authorities attempted to cover up the rape of a 16-year-old girl by two of her classmates—high school football players—even though evidence of their crimes was all over social media. Anonymous took on the case as a cause and brought it to national attention.
Kushner’s story focuses on Deric Lostutter, a “vigilante” affiliated with Anonymous who now faces going to jail for his actions in exposing the case and its cover-up—and for a sentence longer than the two rapists’ sentences combined. The proposed film would take place from Lostutter’s perspective.
Plan B produced 12 Years A Slave and The Tree Of Life, both of which starred Pitt, and currently produces the ABC television show Resurrection.
