Bryan Singer tweets blurry, yet fascinating X-Men: Apocalypse concept art
Bryan Singer has tweeted concept art from the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, and boy is it tantalizing. And blurry!
At least half of the image is obscured by exhaust fumes, but it reveals what seems to be a spaceship (uncommon fixtures in the X-Men films), as well as a figure in the background. i09 speculates that the figure is none other than Apocalypse himself, who is known for bringing heretofore unseen technology everywhere he goes. (Also, something about the figure’s gait suggests a penchant for mass destruction.)
As for the spaceship itself, i09 has a theory about that too, saying that it’s most likely the aptly-named Ship, an A.I. created eons ago by the Celestials (creators of life and death in the Marvel canon) that was tasked with monitoring humanity’s progress. In the comics, Apocalypse has been known to use Ship as his own ride—it already has a cloaking device and vast accumulated knowledge of human history, so he need only add fuzzy dice.
It’s also possible that this is just a ship and not the Ship, but why would Singer post artwork if it didn’t have deeper significance? We’ll find out the real meaning of the image when 20th Century Fox releases X-Men: Apocalypse on May 17, 2016, or from a half dozen trailers in the months before that.
