Synopsis

In the past all roads lead to Rome, nowadays they only lead to myself. Every child knows that self-fulfilment is a lie which turns us into slaves and tyrants. But what are the children supposed to do? How will they ever get out of this? Karl von Moor starts a band of thieves and kills for his pursuit of happiness. His father - a decadent and powerless God - has disowned him. And his big love Amalia does not seem to love him anymore. Passionately she devotes herself to her own projection of Karl, seeing nothing but herself. Franz von Moor designs a social utopia of disguise with his refusal to behave authentically. It's an old story we tell, but we tell it differently. In our anti-soap PALMEN we do not want to repeat television-realism nor reaffirm the watching habits of mainstream cinema. Cinema and television need to change. The last battle has not been fought, the last mystery not been unraveled, there is no end of history.
