FX to turn Her Body And Other Parties into a "feminist Black Mirror"
According to Deadline, FX has picked up the rights to an anthology series based on Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body And Other Parties. The original book is a short story collection that puts a sci-fi/fantasy spin on various real-life horrors that women face, including a dark (well, darker) spin on the old The Green Ribbon story and a lengthy piece involving a series of surreal and nightmarish episodes of Law & Order: SVU. The TV version is being pitched as a “feminist Black Mirror,”with “fairy tale themes,” and the connective tissue from episode to episode will be a recurring ensemble of characters who experience “vivid tales of women’s fears and desires on landscapes of horror, fabulism, and wild-haired absurdity.”
FX’s adaptation of Her Body And Other Parties is being written by Gina Welch, who has previously worked on Feud, Castle Rock, and The Terror, so she must know a thing or two (or three) about anthology shows.
