Kmart and Sears don’t want to be associated with Ivanka Trump, either
Ivanka Trump would never be caught dead in a Sears, let alone a Kmart. In fact, it’s a safe bet that pretty much anywhere with layaway is probably off the table as far as the Favorite First Daughter is concerned. And now the feeling is mutual, as Jezebel reports that struggling retailer Sears Holdings, Inc.—which owns both brands—isn’t struggling hard enough that it has to keep selling Ivanka Trump merchandise, thank you very much.
The stated reason for Sears and Kmart both dropping Ivanka’s “Trump Home” collection from their online shops (neither retailer carried them in-store to begin with) is simple: No one wants to buy this shit. As a Sears spokesperson told ABC News earlier today: “As part of the company’s initiative to optimize its online product assortment, we constantly refine that assortment to focus on our most profitable items. Amid that streamlining effort, 31 Trump Home items were among the items removed online this week.”
If presidential Twitter tantrums aren’t your thing, a little background: This all comes after department store chains Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus dropped Ivanka Trump’s clothing line earlier this week, citing lack of sales of the weirdly ambiguous line of not-quite-office-appropriate, not-quite-casual clothing for the woman who isn‘t quite sure who she is or what she likes. In the wake of that business decision, whose impact resonated in bargain bins throughout the nation, Ivanka’s dad President Donald Trump went on a Twitter screed implying that the only reason he doesn’t act like a complete monster is because Ivanka asks him not to, and that Nordstrom was bring “very unfair” by dropping her brand. This conflict of interest got even more glaring when Trump lackey Kellyanne Conway told taxpayers to “buy Ivanka’s stuff” on Fox News, an act for which she was “counseled” by the Office of Government Ethics—and by Ivanka herself, who lectured Conway “for dragging her brand into an ethics mess,” according to Politico. If only she were so concerned about all the other ethics messes associated with the Trump brand (family name, same difference).
