Let’s overanalyze these new plot details about Stranger Things season 2
The teaser for Netflix’s sci-fi nostalgia hit Stranger Things’ second season premiered during the Super Bowl last week, which means it’s time to start speculating on what exactly is going to happen when the show returns this fall. Entertainment Weekly has some newly released plot details for the show, none of which really tell you all that much, but some of which sound pretty fun. Let’s get to it, shall we?:
1. Will is still seeing visions of the Upside Down.
Whether this is PTSD or something supernatural, series creators the Duffer Brothers aren’t saying. The apparent death of his friend Eleven is still fucking with his head—although, given Mille Bobby Brown is on the cover of EW’s new issue about the show, she obviously comes back—and his sister Nancy is pretty sad about Barb as well. (Five bucks says Barb shows up again at some point, though.)
2. Joyce has a boyfriend, and it isn’t Sheriff Hopper.
It’s a high-school classmate named Bob, played by The Goonies’ Sean Astin. “She’s trying to mask a lot,” Winona Ryder, who plays Joyce on the series, tells EW. “I think she’s made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons’ lives.” Whether Ryder was tripping balls at the SAG Awards remains unclear.
3. Two new kids have just moved to town.
Billy (Dacre Montgomery) and Max (Sadie Sink) are the new kids in town, and while Max immediately makes friends with our young heroes—resulting in some romantic jealously between her, Lucas, and Dustin—her brother Billy is less than friendly. In fact, Matt Duffer teases him as a villain, describing his sinister presence as “Stephen King-esque.”
