Ricky Gervais is finally making his The Office spinoff movie
Because when in doubt, go back to the thing that made you filthy rich, Ricky Gervais is reportedly finally making a followup movie to The Office. Called Life On The Road, the BBC Films production will follow the further adventures of original oblivious boss David Brent; it’s been 12 years since Brent was eliminated from the Wernham Hogg paper company, and Brent is (still) trying to get his music career off the ground. The film will follow Brent’s self-financed U.K. tour, which he believes will be like “Scorsese shooting The Rolling Stones.”
Gervais brought David Brent out of storage for the British TV special Comic Relief: Funny For Money last March, and has since then revived the character for a series of YouTube guitar tutorials and the occasional live gig. Life On The Road will begin shooting in 2015, which should give Gervais plenty of time to turn David Brent’s story into a parable about atheism.
