That may be oversimplifying it a bit; fans of the show know that very few things are what they appear on the surface, so these stares that appear blank may actually feature a contemplative Don concocting his next lie or just spacing out drunk. With one episode left, Mad Men message boards are alive with series finale predictions, most of which center around death or that the entire show takes place in the mind of Pete and Peggy’s autistic child. The harbingers of death got two solid images of Don Draper staring blankly out a window in Lost Horizon implying that he might finally jump to the tune of “A Beautiful Mine” as the opening credits have been promising for seven years. With one hour left to go, fans can expect at least a few more blank stares, more than enough cocktails and at least one more solid “What?” before things wind up for good.
