White Collar lets fans vote which 15 seconds of fast-forwarded opening credits they prefer

Leave it to the network executives and producers behind a hit show to spin viewer outrage into opportunity. After audiences nationwide (including those who’ve opined throughout this very website’s episodic coverage) expressed their passionate rejection of White Collar’s new title sequence for its third season (see below), USA and Collar creator Jeff Eastin have given fans a chance to vote on whether the maligned 15-second upgrade stays or goes.

Beginning tomorrow and concluding July 13, those wishing to have a say in the matter can visit USA’s secondary blog portal and enter a poll that determines if the current opening makes it alive through Season 3, or if democracy prevails and the punchier (read: better) titles from its second season triumphantly return as of July 19.

Eastin calls the decision “a way to reward [viewers’] dedication” by “empowering them.” Most discerning observers—as well as his employing network—likely see it as a chance to uphold the old creed that there’s no such thing as bad publicity and cross-platform traffic. Although depending on the outcome, it could merely prove decisive as to whether America has terrible taste.
