Wil Wheaton to narrate the audiobook of Ready Player One author’s new novel

Today in news that could only be nerdier if it were also directing a movie about Han Solo, Prince Nerd of Nerdopolis, Wil Wheaton, will be narrating the audiobook version of Armada, Ready Player One author Ernest Cline’s new novel—which will be in stores next week. Armada is essentially a new version of The Last Starfighter or Ender’s Game, in that it’s about a kid who is so good at video games that he gets enlisted in an actual spaceship-based war, but the big twist this time around—like Ready Player One—is that this kid is obsessed with popular culture and goes out of his way to remind the reader of that. In other words, when a spaceship shows up, he doesn’t say, “Oh, wow, a totally original thing.” He says, “Oh, wow, just like in The Last Starfighter.”

Wheaton also narrated the audiobook version of Ready Player One—which the press release notes is the top-reviewed title on Audible.com—so it’s easy to see why they would want to continue this successful conglomeration of nerdery. Armada will be in stores on June 14, and you’ll be able to get the audiobook version right here.
