Wolf Eyes wants you to download some harsh noise for a good cause
As writer and activist Audre Lorde once wrote, “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” For some people, caring for themselves in the aftermath of this presidential election will include wine and warm bubble baths. For others, the best medicine is to strap on their headphones and lose themselves in the cathartic squall of some dissonant noise music.
For those in the latter camp, The Detroit Metro-Times has some good news: For the remainder of the afternoon, Michigan-based noise band Wolf Eyes—whose official website is currently blacked out, save for the succinct sentiment “Fuck The Patriarchy”—is donating all profits from music downloaded from its Bandcamp page to three charities working to protect some of American society’s most vulnerable members. Those charities are:
FUCK TRUMP, TRIP MENTAL – HERE’S WHERE WE WILL DONATE:
Border Angels, an “all volunteer, non profit organisation that advocates for human rights, humane immigration reform, and social justice with a special focus on issues related to issues related to the US-Mexican border.” We will provide an event split among their current five causes.
Ruth Ellis Center of Highland Park, MI which exists to “provide short-term and long-term residential safe space and support services for runaway, homeless, and at-risk lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.”
Planned Parenthood, which we will likely choose to donate to a local center so that it may go toward services rather than development if sent to the national level of PP.
All donations will be posted on Wolf Eyes’ website for transparency’s sake. The band’s Bandcamp page currently works on a pay-what-you-want structure, so you could technically download the music for free and not give anything to charity. But that would be awfully Trump of you.
The campaign goes until 5 p.m. ET today, so get to downloading.
