We’ll be honest: we can’t work up much enthusiasm for the big new releases of this week. We could point out that Race To Witch Mountain isn’t bad for what it is, or that The Soloist contains some good performances, but we’d just be going through the motions. Frankly, you’d have a lot more fun—and see some better movies—if you dug through some of the budget-priced collections of lesser-known old Hollywood movies out this week, like the provocatively named “Big Iron Collection,” or the “Icons Of Screwball Comedy” sets. (Full reviews of the latter coming next week.) Or if you want a slam-dunk, guaranteed good time, you need look no further than the Blu-ray edition of John Carpenter’s Big Trouble In Little China, which combines martial arts, sorcery, and full-force American fisticuffs, Kurt Russell style!. If only there were a new title on DVD so good.
