Kurt Russell is pretty sure Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is shooting next year

Quentin Tarantino’s newest project, The Hateful Eight, is currently engaged in a development saga with more twists and turns than the flashing blade of a Shaolin swordsman. First someone leaked Tarantino’s script, and he vowed bloody revenge in the form of a sold-out live reading at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Then some stuff was said at the aforementioned live reading, somebody made a poster for the as-yet-unannounced film, and Tarantino abruptly dropped his lawsuit against Gawker, the site he blamed for leaking the script in the first place.

And now, in a revelation not out of place in a Quentin Tarantino movie, Kurt Russell has joined the fray. Russell appeared on My Fox Philly’s Good Day to promote The Battered Bastards Of Baseball, a documentary about his father’s minor league baseball team the Portland Mavericks. And towardd the end of the interview, Russell said, “I’ve got a Tarantino project called The Hateful Eight that looks like it may go somewhere around the beginning of the year.”

That’s hardly an official announcement, of course. But considering that Russell was on the impressive cast list for The Hateful Eight live reading, and that the Weinsteins probably aren’t going to start telling Quentin Tarantino “no” any time soon, it definitely seems promising.
