That 21 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover is likely dead

Despite promising evidence—a title even!—that mashup of the Men In Black and Jump Street franchises was improbably going to come to fruition, Jonah Hill himself is saying otherwise. Speaking with The Toronto Sun recently, Hill said, “I doubt that movie will get made.” Apparently it’s just going to be too “complicated,” which roughly translates to he’s afraid it’s not going to be funny. “They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff,” he explained. “The Jump Street films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.”

So, basically, Hill and others involved have maybe figured out what was obvious from the start of this venture: It’s a Frankenstein’s monster of a pitch. Still, it’s not like the Jump Street movies are precious, small indies, that would suffer from becoming more outlandish. Sure, there would be a lot riding on the crossover, but the formula has worked twice over now. Why not try this utterly ridiculous concept?
