Destination: Anywhere
Jon Bon Jovi stars in this short dramatic film, which was "inspired by" his solo album of the same title. The presence of Kevin Bacon, Whoopi Goldberg, Annabella Sciorra and Demi Moore might lead to the impression that this is something more than an excuse to string together several music videos, but don't be fooled. The plot, pretty heavily "inspired by" Waterland, involves Bon Jovi being forced to cope with the deteriorating mental state of his pill-popping, booze-swilling wife (Moore) after the loss of their child. Apparently, the best therapy for this sort of situation is to walk in slow motion through New York while looking handsomely disheveled and encountering colorful-looking natives. Moore is considerably more insufferable than usual in her role, which calls for her to provide poetic narration that would embarrass even the least self-critical Tori Amos wannabe. Not that Bon Jovi himself has anything to brag about: Despite the addition of looped drum beats courtesy of ex-Eurhythmic Dave Stewart, snatches of lyrics such as "The night is fading, like my old tattoo" and "I put my hands in her cookie jar" pretty much sum up the level of musical maturity displayed here. Of course, any movie that calls upon Goldberg to play a wisecracking cabbie should pretty much be avoided on principle anyway.
