Get Involved, Internet: Jesse Thorn needs your help to help you "Make Your Thing"
Jesse Thorn and Maximum Fun crew are raising funds to throw a giant Los Angeles-based get-together for people who make stuff. The Make Your Thing conference is scheduled to take place this October, and will bring together creative people from all sorts of backgrounds—comedy, radio production, television production, writing, etc.—in an effort to help generate ideas and manpower toward “small-scale independent creation.” As the group’s Kickstarter page states, “Now is an amazing time for creative people. More than ever before it’s possible to make a living and even thrive doing the creative things you love.”
So far, the event boasts speakers like This American Life and The Moth producer Jay Allison, comedian and actor Chris Gethard, professional wrestler Colt Cabana, Portland Meat Collective founder Camas Davis, Game Of Thrones and Buffy The Vampire Slayer writer-producer Jane Espenson, musician John Vanderslice, and more.
Interested parties can check out Kickstarter to donate toward making Make Your Thing happen. Incentives for contributions include tickets to the conference, T-shirts, stickers, and access to post-conference video of all the speakers. So far, the campaign’s only made about $9,000 of its $120,000 goal, but there are still 29 days to go, and every dollar counts.
