Joanna Newsom will also be in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, probably
As part of a brilliant scheme to have the audience whisper, “Hey, it’s [famous person]” throughout the whole film, thus sparing him the need to film any actual dialogue, Paul Thomas Anderson continues to cast recognizable names in every single role of Inherent Vice. Anderson’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s stoner noir already includes Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short, Jena Malone, Josh Brolin (and possibly Sean Penn), Maya Rudolph and his and Maya Rudolph’s unborn, seventeenth or eighteenth child, and now it might also feature Joanna Newsom.
The dolphin world's favorite harpist was recently spotted on set, leading The Playlist to conclude she’s probably appearing in a role as yet unspecified, though probably quirky. Or, it’s possible she was just bringing husband Andy Samberg by, so he and Rudolph could do some SNL sketches for all the famous people waiting for other famous people to finish their scenes. Or, maybe so much concentrated celebrity eccentricity just magnetically attracted her, in which case, say, John Malkovich and Björk should be pulled into this movie’s orbit any day now.
