Michael Bay-produced remake of The Birds headed straight for your eyeballs
Initially reported back in 2008—when updates of The Amityville Horror, Friday The 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and A Nightmare On Elm Street were but the first attacks in the flurry of eye-pecking remakes to come screaming in from the shallow waters of Michael Bay—a new version of The Birds is now officially in the works from Bay’s Platinum Dunes shingle. Variety reports that Bay has hired Norwegian filmmaker Diederik Van Rooijen to not give a shit that he’s remaking an Alfred Hitchcock movie, aided by the cold indifference of the European and the experience he’s gained on movies like Taped and the Dutch TV series Penoza—a show that was recently remade in America as Red Widow, and now it’s payback time.
As of now it’s unknown whether, as long rumored, Naomi Watts will still assume the lead role of the blonde woman whose wanton sexuality riles nature, or how the film’s plot will differ from Hitchcock’s enough to justify its existence. With Bay’s involvement, however, it’s assumed the birds will be aliens.
