Kevin Smith to lead lineup of directors for holiday-themed horror anthology

Horror and holidays go together like bacon and cheeseburgers, and anthology films are the fried egg on top of the whole delicious, artery-clogging mess. So it isn’t much of a surprise that these three elements have come together for a new horror anthology film, Holidays, which will be about pretty much what you think it will be about. According to Deadline, Kevin Smith is set to lead the lineup of directors, with Dracula Untold’s Gary Shore, The Dirties writer-director Matt Johnson, Dark Skies and Legion director and veteran visual artist Scott Stewart, The Pact and At The Devil’s Door’s Nick McCarthy, Starry Eyes co-directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, The Midnight Swim’s Sarah Smith, and Anthony Scott Burns, who is currently directing his feature debut, Alpha, for Brad Pitt’s Plan B films, also attached to direct segments for the film.

Based on his recent output—and the fact that he’s already working on a Krampus movie—we’re guessing Smith will tackle Canada Day. But which holidays will the rest of the crew choose for their segments? Halloween has obviously been done, and dozens of Christmas horror movies have been made in the past 30 years or so. Even without Eli Roth’s probably-never-to-be-completed Thanksgiving movie, there are more horror movies about the holiday than you might think, and Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, April Fool’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and even 4th of July have all been done. But Columbus Day certainly has some disturbing possibilities, and the summer solstice could be fodder for a Satanic horror short. Personally, though, we’re pulling for Flag Day (Tagline: “Oh, say can you scream?”).
